Here are some process shots of the mural/installation I made for the Double Scribble show at Voltage in Cambridge, MA. It opens this Friday (4/26) and it will run until 5/18 (maybe longer for the mural). It looks a lot better in person, so stop by if you’re in the hood…
I’m in the midst of a big project for Double Scribble’s upcoming gallery exhibition In the Paint: Boston. It’s a giant (8’ x 17’) mural with an underlying narrative of my personal experience as a lifelong fan of the NBA.
The majority of the piece will be painted directly on the gallery wall, but I’m preparing a bunch of painted panels in advance that will be installed and will interact with the on-wall graphics. Here’s a bunch of preview shots of these panels- all are still in progress and many more are just getting started. I’ll post more as they come!
Sometimes when I’m not on an assignment and I have a little time to burn, I go on Twitter and take portrait requests. I like to try and do these quick drawings in 20-25 minutes, including looking for photo reference. I post them whether they are good or not- I think it’s a nice little way to try and get better. I’ll post my favorite ones here and create a little online sketchbook.
A t-shirt graphic I made for The Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (affectionately pronounced “Sick Puppy”).
A promotional poster I illustrated for a backyard boxing match. Suffice to say, the poster was prettier than the fight, thanks in large part to this inspiration.
An old EP cover I did for the now-defunct Boston hip-hop act The Beta Males. The title serves to remind us that we all eat an average of seven spiders in our sleep each year.
